A California Salad of Natives

An experiment with 100% california natives, this is my yard! It is an evolving dish of purely local cuisine in the heart of Yountville… In the process I have moved around plants from one side of the house to the other trying to understand their delicacies and needs. I am using varieties of California Lilacs (blue, white, yellow trailing), Strawberry trees, manzanita trees manzanita groundcovers, and all the NorCal natives that so many are striving to understand as a new spice in the ubiquitous Mediterranean Garden salad. Surprisingly, none of these natives are toxic to animals of humans, and they are very tolerant to trampling with toy trucks and balls, which makes me feel safe and secure as my child does his walk abouts and personal experiments in the yard.
