Attractive to Us & Bees

When you first buy a house, the biggest challenge is seeing its “potential” - which was literally the case for this project, because when you looked out the window into the back yard , you literally could not see it! The house had been placed at the bottom of a steep hill and the previous owner had placed plants, which, although beautiful and well kept, had created a green wall that completely blocked your view. There was a complicated drainage issue which also had to be addressed.

This prompted carving out a huge portion of the yard, and terracing the landscape, along with winding “ramps” for ease of access. So much much dirt started coming out that it raised some eyebrows,  but it was well worth it because now they raise they eyebrows along with a WOW! The house gained immensely thanks to the new indoor - outdoor living room, new 20’ deck, views of the terraces filled with flowering pollinator species and native groundcovers for erosion control. The corten retaining walls define the walkways with clean, gentle curves that slice through the hill. Stone treads and giant boulder walls look as if they were all quarried right out of the site. if you take the Paseo to the top, it brings you to a steel blue 15x40 pool and spa that surrounded by warm rock, which invites you to dive in. And to top it all off, the view which now can be appreciated right out of the living room, showcases a view crowned with magnificient Live Oaks and Golden California Hills.
